Summer, 2016: Dad’s short story Negroes Anonymous was honored with The Ghost Story Supernatural Fiction Award.
Spring, 2016: Becca travels to Norwich, England to present her paper Doing Double Duty: The Music Supervisor as Fan and Professional at “The World’s Nerdiest Academic Conference” also known as Fan Studies Network 2016.
Winter, 2016: Dad’s essay From August Wilson to Tyler Perry: Crossing Paths on the Way to Tomorrow was published in Continuum: The Journal of African Diaspora Drama, Theatre and Performance, a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to exploring the past, present and future of Black theatre.
Spring, 2015: Becca is working with long time collaborator Mark Platzer aka The Fortune Teller. They were music technology classmates @USC and Mark was the drummer in Becca’s band.
Dec, 2014: The Pad’s composition Butterflies & Fairytales is featured in Duck in a Tree #129 broadcast on London’s Resonance 104.4 FM, curated by North East England’s :zoviet*France. Download & listen at:
Dec, 2014: Becca aced her comprehensive qualifying examination this month, moving one step closer to her PhD. Her academic committee was comprised of Professors Christopher Holmes Smith, Sarah Banet-Weiser, Henry Jenkins and Josh Kun.
Fall, 2013: Becca’s essay Non-conforming Americans: Genre, Race, and Creativity in Popular Music was published at HenryJenkins.org. Jenkins, one of Becca’s graduate advisors, is Professor of Communication, Journalism, and Cinematic Arts at USC and former Director of the MIT Comparative Media Studies Program.
